I get tired of having to draw braids by hand so I made a custom hair braid brush for Photoshop. I wouldn't recommend using this brush as a finished look, but it's a great tool to use to get the initial braid down for you to go back over and detail it. Check out some of the settings too because you can make it where the braids will combine and form a scale like texture, could come in handy for dragon scales.
It's really made for braids that are straight and with a slight curve, if you get too crazy on the curvature the braid will start to fan out. But even then you can go back and clean it up. Hope this helps you guys.
